September Changes on the Homestead

We have been busy, busy trying to finish up projects around the homestead and planning for new additions. Instead of individually addressing each of our big changes I am writing one big blog post!

We entered Charlie, Aurora, and Carina in the fair. They all got first place! We also entered vegetables, crafts, and flowers. We met a lot of new people and made some wonderful homesteading connections.

We enlisted some help digging out a trench for our run. We put wire in the bottom of the trench attached to the run so that animals can not dig under it.

My little garden has bloomed like crazy! Here are some pretty flower shots.

We had to completely redo the rabbitry. We wanted to keep them on the ground, but the setup we had did not work for us for multipul reasons. Now all of the bunnies have a clean, safe living environment and are as hoppy as can be! Eventually we hope to be able to implement a colony style living arrangement, but for the time being this is what works best.

Mosaic ("Mo"), our Broken Black Rex buck is nervous about the camera but is usually SO, SO sweet otherwise. He won't let me shut the cage without a little loving in the morning. Carina is getting so big and Sugar is developing her dewlap.

The Turkey's are getting HUGE. It looks like we have 2 Toms and the rest are female. They are pretty funny little creatures.

Last but not least, our biggest new addition! Two rescue ducks. A pair of Khaki Campbell. We chose names for them today: Godiva (the girl) and Ghirardelli (the boy). They are very timid right now but with enough work we have hope that they will become as friendly as everyone else on the farm. They are inseperable. We have them in the cage for now until they aren't so new, then we will let them free range with the rest of the animals. Eventually we are planning to add a small pond for them to swim in.
