Happy Fall!

It's officially fall around the homestead. There are leaves on the ground, we have pulled our sweaters from the backs of drawers, and we have had soup and cider for multiple nights now. We have a lot to do before winter comes, so this fall will be a busy one. THE GARDENS: Nana and Marcus worked hard to strip the gardens before the expected frost tonight. We have lots and lots of delicious basil- now just to decide what to do with it. Not everything is completely barren- we still have a few beautiful fall flowers left. THE CHICKENS: We are still slaving away at the run. We are just finishing doing wiring around the top and then we are DONE! It even has a giant dust bath and roosts. The girls are getting fancy new laminate flooring beneath their shavings. We asked for seconds so we got a good deal on them, and laminate flooring makes it SO. MUCH. September Changes on the Homestead

We have been busy, busy trying to finish up projects around the homestead and planning for new additions. Instead of individually addressing each of our big changes I am writing one big blog post! We entered Charlie, Aurora, and Carina in the fair. They all got first place! We also entered vegetables, crafts, and flowers. We met a lot of new people and made some wonderful homesteading connections. We enlisted some help digging out a trench for our run. We put wire in the bottom of the trench attached to the run so that animals can not dig under it. My little garden has bloomed like crazy! Here are some pretty flower shots. We had to completely redo the rabbitry. We wanted to keep them on the ground, but the setup we had did not work for us for multipul reasons. Now all of the bunnies have a clean, safe living environment and are as hoppy as can be! Eventually we hope to be able to implement a colony style living arrangement, but for the time bein
